Scripture Focus: Joshua 2:9–14
Joshua 2:9–14 (KJV)
And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token: And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
Joshua 2:9–14 (NIV)
and said to them, "I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below. "Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death." "Our lives for your lives!" the men assured her. "If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the Lord gives us the land."
Joshua 2:9–14 (ERV)
She said to them, "I know that the Lord has given this land to your people. You frighten us. All the people living in this country are afraid of you. We are afraid because we heard about how the Lord helped you. We heard that he dried up the water of the Red Sea when you came out of Egypt. We also heard about what you did to the two Amorite kings, Sihon and Og, who lived east of the Jordan River. We heard how you completely destroyed them. When we heard about these things, we were very afraid. Now no one has the courage to fight you, because the Lord your God rules the heavens above and the earth below! So now, make a promise to me in the name of the Lord. I was kind to you and helped you. Promise me that you will be kind to my family. Tell me that you will do this. Save my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and their families. Save us from death!" The men agreed. They said, "We will trade our lives for yours! Don’t tell anyone what we are doing. Then, when the Lord gives us our land, we will be kind to you. You can trust us."

Reflection
Hey Gems & Jewels;
Let’s learn the extraordinary story of Rahab in Joshua chapter 2, a story that reminds us no past is too heavy for God’s grace and no individual is outside the reach of His redemption. Rahab lived in Jericho and was known as a prostitute, yet her past did not prevent her from recognizing the power of the living God. When two Israelite spies came to her home, she chose to shelter them, courageously declaring that their God was God in heaven above and on the earth below. Her faith showed through action as she entrusted her future and her family’s safety to His mercy. Through Rahab’s story, we discover that God does not define us by where we have been. His grace invites us to trust Him where we are and take a faithful step toward the future He is preparing.
Rahab lived in the pagan city of Jericho, a place ripe for judgment. Yet, when she heard of the mighty acts of the God of Israel, her heart didn't harden; it turned in faith. She declared boldly to the spies, "The Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath." Acting on that conviction, Rahab hid the Israeli messengers and made a covenant for the salvation of her entire household. The scarlet cord she hung from her window served as the sign of protection; it was a vivid Old Testament image pointing directly to the blood of Jesus Christ that covers and protects us from death.
Rahab’s story reminds us that redemption is a gift paid for by sacrifice. She didn't earn her place in the lineage of Christ through a perfect past; she received it through a courageous, active faith. Whatever your background or past mistakes, when you place your trust in Jesus, you are completely covered by His precious sacrifice, brought into His royal family, and positioned to leave a godly legacy.
