Wisdom that Builds; Lessons from Proverbs: Day 5; The Power of Words

Scripture:

  • KJV: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21)
  • NIV: “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
  • ERV: “The tongue can speak words that bring life or death. Those who love to talk must be ready to accept what it brings.” (Proverbs 18:21)

Reflection

Your words are never neutral or meaningless; they either build up or tear down, bring life or destroy. Proverbs tells us plainly: life and death are in the power of the tongue. Words can heal wounds, restore hope, and release courage, or they can wound, divide, and destroy. Wisdom calls us to speak with devotion to truth and courage to stand on God’s Word. Every word is a seed; what you say today will produce fruit tomorrow. Choose words that align with God’s promises, in order to watch them unfold in your life.

Declaration:

“My words will bring life, hope, and encouragement. I will speak with courage and devotion to God’s truth.”

Definition of Declaration:

A declaration is a statement of faith that aligns your words with God’s promises, giving power to what you speak.

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to guard my words and use them for Your glory. Let my tongue be an instrument of life, encouragement, and truth. Amen.
