If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

We often assume that serving God means allowing people unlimited access to our lives, even at the cost of our own peace. However, pouring from an empty or battered reservoir eventually leads to resentment and burnout, which is never God's design for our calling. We have to understand it is truly OK to purge harmful influences, set godly boundaries, and protect the vessel God created, so we can serve Him with pure joy rather than exhaustion. When we guard the sacred space of our hearts and minds, we honor the Lord as wise stewards of the life and peace He has entrusted to us.
For a long time, many of us carried the heavy burden of remaining fiercely loyal to people who were never loyal to us. It can be devastating to pour out your heart, only to realize that you allowed toxic access out of a desire to prove your love and help others see God through you. Traditional religious teachings often made us feel that turning the other cheek or forgiving meant staying in exhausting cycles to please God, protecting others at the expense of our own mind and peace.
To be a vessel unto honor, God calls us to purge what is harmful and steward what He has placed inside us. Realizing that you allowed unhealthy access in the past is not a sentence of guilt; it is the moment you reclaim your authority in God. Forgiveness does not mean being a walking doormat or remaining in relationships until you are burnt out and bitter. Forgiveness looks like letting go when necessary, cutting access in a healthy, timely manner, and letting God have His way in your life. When you choose to put God first, keep Him there, and prove your loyalty to Him above all else, you begin to protect your heart as a wise steward. You can forgive freely while still guarding the sacred space God entrusted to you.
