THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER: Day 5; Good Ground

THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER: Day 5; Good Ground

Faith, Readiness of the Heart, Perseverance

Key Scripture: Matthew 13:8 and 13:23

KJV

8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

NIV

8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop, a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

ERV

8 But some of the seed fell on good ground. That seed grew and gave a good crop, some grain giving 100 times more, some 60 times more, and some 30 times more.

23 But the seed that fell on the good ground is like the people who hear God’s teaching and understand it. They grow and produce a good crop, some producing 100 times more, some 60 times more, and some 30 times more.

Reflection

Good ground is not perfect ground. It is prepared ground.

Jesus does not present good soil as a personality type. He presents it as a heart condition. A heart that hears the Word, receives it, and understands it. A heart that makes space for truth, and keeps making space until that truth begins to produce fruit.

This is the quiet maturity that many believers long for. Not emotional highs that fade quickly, and not crowded seasons where worry chokes growth, but steady faith that remains when no one is watching.

Fruit is not manufactured. Fruit is produced.

And Scripture shows us what the producing comes from. Hearing, understanding, and continuing. The good soil does not rush. It does not panic. It receives the seed and allows time to do its work beneath the surface.

Good ground is what happens when you choose depth over distraction, understanding over assumptions, and obedience over impulse. It is what happens when you return to the Word even when you do not feel anything dramatic. When you pray again even after a dry season. When you remain rooted while life is still unfolding.

This day is an encouragement. God does not only plant seed. He also prepares soil. If you desire to be good ground, you are already responding to Him. And if you keep receiving the Word with understanding, fruit will come in its time.

Not all fruit appears at the same rate. Some yield thirty, some sixty, some a hundred. But all fruit is evidence that God’s Word remained, and your heart stayed open.

Life Skill Tip

Do a calm “soil check” today with these three questions:

  1. What am I hearing from God’s Word lately
  2. What do I understand clearly
  3. What is one simple act of obedience I can do today

Keep it small. Good ground is built through consistency, not intensity.

Declaration

My heart is good ground.

I receive God’s Word with understanding.

In God’s time, my life will bear steady fruit.

Definition of a Declaration

A declaration is a faith-filled statement based on Scripture. It helps you stay aligned with truth and respond to life with trust instead of fear or pressure.

Prayer

God, make my heart good ground. Help me hear Your Word, understand it, and keep it. Remove what hardens me, shallow roots, and what crowds me. Let Your truth produce fruit in my life in its time. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Today’s Jewel is Jasper; it represents hope, steadfastness, and God’s protection.

Why it fits today’s theme

Good ground requires steady faith. Jasper reminds us that God protects what He is growing in us, and hope stays rooted even when results take time.

Question

What is one area of my life where I want God’s Word to produce lasting fruit, and what does “steady obedience” look like there? Share your thoughts in the comments; you never know who it might encourage, or write them in your journal.
