Scripture Focus: Acts 16:14–15
Acts 16:14–15 (KJV)
And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and stay there. And she constrained us.
Acts 16:14–15 (NIV)
One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house." And she persuaded us.
Acts 16:14–15 (ERV)
One of the people listening was a woman named Lydia. She was from the city of Thyatira and sold expensive purple cloth. She worshiped the true God. The Lord opened her mind to pay attention to what Paul was saying. So she and all the people in her house were baptized. Then she invited us to her home. She said, "If you think I truly believe in the Lord, then come stay at my house." She persuaded us to stay with her.

Reflection
Hey Gems & Jewels;
Lydia of Thyatira stands out in the New Testament as a powerful model of faith in action, entrepreneurial success, and practical Christian community. Living in Philippi as a respected seller of luxurious purple fabric—a trade associated with nobility and influence—she was already a devout seeker of God. However, when she gathered with other women by the river to pray and heard the gospel preached by the Apostle Paul, Scripture records that the Lord opened her heart to receive His divine truth. The immediate result of her conversion was an outpouring of connection and unity. By opening her home to Paul and his companions, Lydia established the first house church in Europe, proving that a heart touched by God's grace naturally creates space for healing, fellowship, and kingdom community.
Lydia’s story demonstrates that genuine hospitality goes far beyond serving a meal or providing shelter; it is a spiritual tool that bridges divides and fosters true belonging. Her willingness to share her resources transformed her household into a sanctuary where faith could flourish and believers could gather in safety. When we allow God to open our hearts as He did Lydia’s, our homes, workplaces, and daily encounters become intentional places of refuge, healing, and spiritual restoration for those around us.
God calls every believer to nuture this same spirit of unity and connection within their sphere of influence. True devotion to God is never meant to be lived out in isolation; it naturally overflows into practical love, hospitality, and fellowship with others. Whether through opening your doors, offering a timely word of encouragement, or bridging differences with grace, God uses your willingness to build up His kingdom and bring His people together.
