Scripture Focus: Luke 10:38–42
Luke 10:38–42 (KJV)
Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Luke 10:38–42 (NIV)
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
Luke 10:38–42 (ERV)
While Jesus and his followers were traveling, he went into a town. A woman named Martha let Jesus stay at her house. Martha had a sister named Mary. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to him teach. But Martha was busy with all the work that had to be done. She went to Jesus and said, "Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work alone? Tell her to help me!" But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things. Only one thing is important. Mary has chosen the better thing, and it will never be taken away from her."

Reflection
Hey Gems & Jewels;
We are exploring what it means to cultivate a deep, personal devotion to Christ, allowing our relationship with Him to shape our hearts and guide our daily lives. As we draw near to Him through prayer, His Word, and quiet moments in His presence, we learn to rest in His divine peace, even when life feels uncertain. From that place of trust, we can extend grace, listen with humility, and love one another with sincerity. As His love takes root within us, we become more willing to forgive, more patient with our differences, and more intentional about fostering genuine unity in our homes, churches, and communities.
Our journey begins in Bethany, in the home of Martha and Mary. While Martha was pulled in many directions by the demands of hosting, so she was focused on that. Mary chose to give Jesus her undivided attention. She sat at His feet, listening closely to His every word. When Martha expressed her frustration over being left to serve alone, Jesus gently reminded her that, amid her many worries, only one thing was truly needed. Her service mattered, but it was not meant to overshadow the precious opportunity to be with Him. Mary had chosen the “good part,” the quiet gift of drawing near and receiving His words, and He promised that it would not be taken away from her.Jesus gently redirected her focus. He revealed that while practical service has its place, intimate communion with Him is the single most essential pursuit; a "good part" that can never be stripped away.
In our fast-paced world, it is easy to become overwhelmed by busyness, even when serving in good causes. However, God desires your heart before He asks for your labor. Sitting at the feet of Jesus means prioritizing His presence above the noise of daily demands, allowing His Word to quiet your anxieties and align your spirit. When your heart is wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord, every action, service, and relationship flows out of a place of divine peace and harmony with His will, and a desire to be obedient.
