Reflection
Hey Gems & Jewels;
The eighth flavor of the fruit of the Spirit is Gentleness. In the Kingdom, gentleness is not a sign of weakness; it is strength under control. Jesus described Himself as "gentle and lowly in heart" (Matthew 11:29), and yet He had the power to calm storms and cast out demons.
This shows us that gentleness is actually a display of immense power held in check. It is the ability to be firm in your convictions without being harsh in your delivery. Gentleness is the fruit that allows us to handle the fragile things of life; people, relationships, and our own hearts; with the same care and respect that the Master uses with us.
The strength of the small is found in the way we treat the vulnerable. Gentleness means you do not use your power to crush others, even when you have the right to be angry or defensive. However, just as with all other fruits, gentleness must be tempered with wisdom.
Being gentle does not mean letting people treat you with contempt or harshness. You can respond with a gentle, controlled tone while still firmly enforcing a boundary that stops someone from mistreating you. Gentleness is how you protect your own spirit from becoming hard or bitter; it is the "soft soil" that allows God’s grace to continue to grow within you.
Life Skill Tip
Practice “Controlled Strength.” When someone approaches you with hostility today, choose to respond with a calm, steady, and gentle voice. By refusing to match their harshness, you keep the atmosphere under your own control. Remember, your gentleness is a boundary in itself; it shows that you are too secure in who God made you to be to be rattled by the behavior of others.
