Key Scripture: Matthew 13:7
Matthew 13:7 (KJV) And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them.
Matthew 13:7 (NIV) Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.
Matthew 13:7 (ERV) Other seed fell among thorny weeds. These weeds grew and choked the good plants, and kept them from growing.

Reflection
The third type of soil Jesus describes is ground infested with thorns. Unlike the path or the rocky ground, this soil is actually quite fertile. The seed is able to enter, sprout, and even begin to grow. The problem is that the seed is not alone. It is sharing the soil with weeds that are more aggressive and more established.
Jesus explains that these thorns represent the "cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches." They do not kill the plant immediately; they simply "choke" it. They steal the water, the light, and the nutrients that were meant for the Word.
A choked heart is a busy heart one that is so consumed by anxiety, material pursuit, and the "to do lists" of life that the Word never has the room to produce fruit. A crowded heart is a compromised heart. The greatest threat to your harvest is not always a lack of growth, but the presence of distractions that compete for your nourishment. To have a healthy harvest, we must be willing to pull the weeds. We must prioritize the Kingdom over the glamor of the world.

Life Skill Tip
Practice The Power of the No. Review your current commitments and "worries" this week. Identify one activity or mental preoccupation that is draining your energy without producing spiritual fruit. By saying "no" to a distraction, you are saying "yes" to the growth of your God given purpose.
Declarations
My heart is a sanctuary, not a marketplace for the world’s worries.
I prioritize the Word of God above the cares of this life.
I am free from the choking influence of anxiety and greed.
I create space for my spiritual life to breathe and flourish.
What is a Declaration
A declaration is a formal and confident statement of spiritual truth intended to align your spoken words with God’s promises, shifting your mindset and environment.

Prayer
Father, I ask You to help me identify the thorns in my life. Forgive me for allowing distractions and worries to take the place of Your truth. I choose today to pull up the weeds of anxiety and the pursuit of things that do not last. Give me the focus to tend to the seed of Your Word so that I may see a full harvest in my life. In Jesus name. Amen.
