Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me forth yet another vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

Elisha said, "Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side." She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another one." But he replied, "There is not a jar left." Then the oil stopped flowing.

Then Elisha said, "Go and borrow empty bowls from your neighbors. Don’t get just a few bowls, get many. Then go into your house and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour the oil into all those bowls, and set each one aside when it is full." So the woman left Elisha and went into her house with her sons. She shut the door behind them. Her sons brought the bowls to her, and she poured the oil. She filled many bowls. Then she said to her son, "Bring me another bowl." He said, "There are no more bowls." Then the oil stopped flowing.

God does not measure our readiness for honorable responsibility and spiritual trust by our titles, our talents, or the applause of others. He looks deeper. God looks at the condition of our hearts, the faithfulness we have shown in the quiet and unseen places, and the humility with which we have carried what He has already placed in our hands. True readiness is not something we announce; it is something He confirms, in His time and according to His purposes.
In 2 Kings, a widow facing severe debt and the loss of her sons was given a strange instruction by the prophet Elisha: go gather empty vessels, take them behind closed doors, and begin to pour the small jar of oil she had left. Miraculously, as long as there was an empty vessel available, the oil kept flowing. The oil only stopped when there were no more clean, prepared vessels to receive it. The limit was never on God's supply; the limit was on the room made available to hold it.
God is searching for vessels that have been cleaned, emptied of self interest, and prepared to carry His sacred trust. Before stepping into upper room assignment, we must examine our hearts and make space. Making room requires clearing out bitterness, pride, and motives that compete with God's purpose. When you present God with a clean and willing heart, He delights in filling you to overflow. Prepare your vessel today with purity, humility, and honorable expectation, knowing that God always matches His pouring to your capacity to hold it in trust.
