Love That Is Rooted in Truth: Day 1; What Love Really Is

Love That Is Rooted in Truth: Day 1; What Love Really Is

Focus: Love defined by God, not culture or the world

Key Idea: Love begins with God’s character

Key Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4 - 8, 1 John 4:8

KJV

1 Corinthians 13:4 - 8

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge. It shall vanish away.

1 John 4:8

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

NIV

1 Corinthians 13:4 - 8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

1 John 4:8

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

ERV

1 Corinthians 13:4 - 8

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits. Love will never end. But all those gifts will come to an end; even the gift of prophecy, the gift of speaking in different kinds of languages, and the gift of knowledge.

1 John 4:8

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Reflection

Hey Gems & Jewels;

Before love is romance, it is revelation.

God does not ask us to invent love. He reveals it through His own nature. Scripture says God is love. That means love is not defined by emotion, attention, attraction, or chemistry. It is defined by character.

Love is patient. That means it is not rushed or demanding.

Love is kind. That means it is gentle in tone and action.

Love does not envy or boast. It is not competitive or self centered.

Love rejoices in truth. It does not compromise integrity for affection.

Culture often teaches that love is intensity. Scripture teaches that love is endurance. Biblical love is steady. It is rooted in truth. It is not easily provoked. It does not seek its own advantage. It endures.

If love begins with God’s character, then learning to love well begins with learning to reflect Him. Before asking who loves me, the deeper question becomes: am I loving according to truth?

Life Skill Tip

Evaluate love by Scripture, not by feeling.

When entering friendships, relationships, or even family dynamics, ask yourself: does this reflect patience, kindness, humility, and truth? If it contradicts Scripture, it is not love no matter how strong the emotion feels.

Let the Word of God define your standard.

Declaration

I define love according to God’s Word.

I reflect patience, kindness, and truth. My love is rooted in character, not emotion alone.

I choose to love in alignment with God.

Definition of a Declaration

A declaration is a truth aligned statement spoken intentionally to shape belief and reinforce identity. It strengthens conviction and anchors the heart in Scripture.

Today’s Jewel is  Sapphire: it represents wisdom, truth, and heavenly understanding. Sapphire represents truth guided by wisdom. Love must be anchored in truth to remain healthy and enduring.

How it fits today’s theme:

When love is disconnected from truth, it becomes unstable. When it is rooted in wisdom, it becomes steady and discerning.

Sapphire reminds us that love and truth are not opposites. They are partners.

Prayer

Father,

Teach me to love the way You love. Align my understanding of love with Your Word. Remove confusion shaped by culture or emotion. Help me reflect patience, kindness, and truth in every relationship. In Jesus name. Amen.
