Nehemiah:Rebuilding the Wall: Day 2; The Strategy of Prayer

Key Scripture: Nehemiah 1:5 - 11

KJV:

5)and said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:6)let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.7)We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.8) Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:9)but if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.10)Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.11)O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer. (Nenemiah 1: 5-11)

NIV:

Then I said: 'Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night...(Nehemiah 1:5-6)

ERV:

Then I prayed this prayer: 'Lord, God of heaven, you are the great and powerful God. You are the God who keeps his agreement of love with those who love you and obey your commands. Please open your eyes and listen to the prayer that your servant is praying before you day and night… (Nehemiah 1:5-6)

Reflection

Hey Gems & Jewels;

Nehemiah’s reaction to the broken walls was not just emotional; it was intentional. Before he approached the King for resources, he approached the King of Kings for a strategy. His prayer was not a grocery list of demands but a reminder of God’s covenant and character.

He acknowledged God’s greatness, confessed the sins of the people, and then made his specific request for favor. When we face a "wall" that needs rebuilding, our first instinct is often to work harder. However, the blueprint for success is found in the secret place of prayer.

A strategy without prayer is just a human effort, but a strategy born in prayer carries divine authority.

Bridge to Life Skill: Success in any project requires a clear plan, but that plan should be built on a foundation of quiet reflection and focused intentionality.

Life Skill Tip:

The ACTS Prayer Strategy

To build a life of intention, you must first build a life of prayer. When you are overwhelmed by the "rubble" in your life, use the ACTS acronym to ground your daily conversation with God:

Adoration: Start by praising God for His character and power.

Confession: Honestly bring your mistakes and shortfalls before Him to clear your heart.

Thanksgiving: Express gratitude for the progress you have already seen.

Supplication: Formally present your specific needs and the resources required for your "wall".

Nehemiah was a master of logistics.  He positioned himself before God. Take ten minutes today to write down your "Top 3" priorities and pray specifically over each one.

Declarations

I declare that I am a person of strategy and divine wisdom.

I do not move in haste, but I move in faith and preparation.

My ears are attentive to the whispers of God, and my eyes are open to the opportunities He places before me.

I declare that every plan I submit to the Lord will be established and successful.

Definition of a Declaration

A declaration is an official, formal, and confident statement of an intended state or a spiritual truth spoken aloud to align your reality with God's Word.

Prayer

Lord God of Heaven, thank You for being a God who keeps His promises. I ask that You would give me a clear strategy for the areas of my life that need rebuilding. Open my eyes to see the path You have laid out for me. Grant me favor with those in authority and the wisdom to handle the resources You provide. In Jesus' name, Amen.

What it represents: Truth, wisdom, and heavenly perspective.

How it fits the message:

The Sapphire represents the "Blueprints from Heaven." Just as the sapphire is the color of the sky, this jewel reminds us that our strategy should come from above. It represents the clarity and truth needed to plan effectively.
